The Chappell Tractor Story
As told by Brad and Corey Chappell — Fourth Generation
As told by Brad and Corey Chappell — Fourth Generation
From the first Fordson tractor sold out of a family barn to the modern facilities you see today, Chappell Tractor has remained committed to treating every customer like gold. What began as a passion for machinery has grown into a trusted, multi‑location dealership serving New Hampshire and the surrounding region for more than half a century.
A Legacy Begins
Our story starts in the 1930s with our great‑grandfather, Perley Chappell, a dairy farmer in Clarkesville, New Hampshire who was one of the first in the area to own a tractor. Perley had a deep appreciation for machines—and a talent for memorable one‑liners, many of which still resonate today.
After the family moved to Milford, Perley’s son—and our grandfather—George Chappell turned that appreciation into a business, selling tractors out of the family barn. George believed strongly in customer satisfaction and loyalty. His philosophy was simple: treat people right, and they’ll come back. That mindset continues to guide Chappell Tractor today.
Growing with Our Customers
As customer needs grew, so did Chappell Tractor.
1960
The dealership moved into a 3,000 sq. ft. cement block building on Route 13, marking Chappell Tractor’s first major expansion.
1970
Development of Route 101 prompted another move into a 7,200 sq. ft. structural steel facility, including an expanded lawn and garden showroom.
1985
Kent and Roger Chappell built the current post‑and‑beam facility, growing the dealership to nearly 25,000 sq. ft. and creating a one‑of‑a‑kind showroom experience.
1994
Chappell Tractor Sales acquired B‑B Chain, originally founded in 1965. B‑B Chain now delivers tools, chains, and parts to over 720 municipalities and businesses across NH, MA, and VT.
1998
Chappell Tractor East opened on Route 125 in Brentwood, NH, expanding the company’s reach with a second full‑service location.
2002
The Brentwood location doubled its shop and showroom space with a 9,600 sq. ft. expansion and post‑and‑beam front porch.
2005–2006
A 14,000 sq. ft. expansion transformed the Milford dealership, adding dedicated tractor and lawn & garden showrooms and launching Outfitters by Chappell Tractor.
2010
Ownership begins transitioning to the fourth generation.
2017
Chappell Tractor added a third, full service location on Louden Rd. in Concord, NH.
2023 - 2024
Milford’s “Big House” gets two new service bays and the Kubota assembly barn, with six service bays and one detailing bay is completed.
